Amethyst

A heaped arrangement of amethyst: raw points, a geode section showing purple druzy, and polished tumbled stones in violet and lilac.

Quartz turned violet by iron and time. Calm, intuition and quiet protection.

The aesthetic

Amethyst is quartz coloured violet by traces of iron and natural irradiation, ranging from a barely-there lilac to a deep royal purple that reads almost black in low light. It most often grows as a crust of points lining the inside of a cavity, which is why so much of it arrives as a geode section or a cut slab with a band of pale agate around the outside and a dense purple interior.

The dynamic

Amethyst has long been tied to sobriety, clear-headedness and rest. It is commonly associated with calm, intuition and protection, and is the stone most often kept by a bed.
