Rose Quartz

A cluster of rose quartz: raw pink chunks, polished spheres and tumbled stones, soft and milky against near-black.

Cloudy pink quartz, rarely faceted, almost always tumbled. The love stone.

The aesthetic

Rose quartz is a milky pink quartz that almost never forms good crystals, turning up instead as massive lumps quarried out of pegmatite veins. The colour comes from microscopic mineral fibres running through it, and those same fibres give the best pieces a soft internal glow and, occasionally, a star when cut into a dome. It bruises easily in strong sunlight, fading over years from rose toward grey.

The dynamic

Rose quartz is the stone most associated with love in all its forms, from romance to friendship to the harder work of being kind to oneself, and with emotional healing and comfort.
