Peridot

A gathered group of peridot: glassy yellow-green crystals and polished stones, oily and bright against near-black.

One green only, straight out of the mantle. Sometimes it arrives by meteorite.

The aesthetic

Peridot is gem-quality olivine and comes in exactly one colour, an oily yellow-green, varying only in how much iron pushes it toward olive. It forms deep in the earth's mantle and is carried up by volcanic activity, and it has also arrived from space inside pallasite meteorites, which makes it one of very few gems found both on and off this planet. Good crystals are stubby and glassy.

The dynamic

Peridot is associated with renewal, gratitude and release, and is traditionally described as a stone for shedding old patterns and letting good fortune in.

Some variations
