The Lore

Phoenix

A phoenix illustration with wings spread and a long trailing tail, worked in crimson, amethyst and gold.

Rising from the ashes — renewal, reinvention, and coming back stronger.

Origins & tradition

The phoenix is a legendary bird most famously associated with ancient Greek and Roman tradition, though stories of extraordinary sacred birds appear in several ancient cultures. In classical accounts, the phoenix was a rare, long-lived bird connected with the sun that eventually died and was followed by the emergence of a new phoenix. Over time, its story became closely associated with renewal, immortality, rebirth, and the cycles of life.

Modern meaning

Today, the phoenix is a powerful symbol of resilience, transformation, strength, reinvention, and rising after hardship. The phrase “rising from the ashes” reflects its modern meaning — the ability to move beyond an ending, hardship, or major change and emerge renewed, often stronger and wiser than before.

These meanings find their way into the dreamcatchers, mandalas and amigurumi I make. See what I offer, or read the rest of the lore.
